Board meetings and strategic plans from City of Ely
The Board of Adjustment conducted a public hearing regarding a variance application for a property located at 1102 E Camp St. The applicant requested permission to install a 6-foot-high fence, which exceeds the city's code restriction of 4 feet along streets and avenues. The applicant justified the request based on the need for privacy due to high traffic, protection from wildlife such as coyotes, and prevention of deer damage to garden vegetation. Following staff analysis and findings regarding reasonable use of the property and minimal impact on the neighborhood character, the Board approved the variance.
The council reviewed a presentation on the regional economy and received updates on the Heritage Preservation Commission's restoration efforts. Key actions included approving committee recommendations regarding airport contract adjustments, utility project bids for the Burntside Waterline, police department equipment purchases, and energy rebates. The council handled department reports, approved claims for payment, addressed a license application for the State Theater, and passed resolutions regarding license bureau revenue sharing and raffle permits. Public forum speakers raised concerns regarding meeting transparency and regional economic planning.
