The board conducted a public hearing regarding a variance request for 1 Depot Extension Unit 3, specifically concerning building code requirements for natural light and ventilation in a basement renovation. Additionally, the board held a housing inspection hearing for 66 Dudley Road Unit 112, resulting in the approval of a 60-day extension for required window repairs. The meeting concluded with a brief status update on an ongoing enforcement discussion regarding Edward Road.
The meeting included a presentation from RCAP Solutions regarding the management of affordable housing properties, specifically Atwood Acres and Townsend Woods. Discussion topics included the current status of unit vacancies, the tenant selection plan and waitlist management system, and 24-hour emergency maintenance procedures. The board also addressed concerns regarding resident safety and the potential for increased supportive services, such as referrals for seniors, and clarified the ownership structure involving nonprofits and HUD funding.
The commission discussed an application from the local historical society regarding lamp post designs at a specific address. A representative from the historical society asserted that the commission lacked jurisdiction over lighting fixtures per local bylaws, cited a lack of mandatory notice for the previous hearing, and refused to consent to extensions of the statutory review period. The board addressed these administrative and procedural concerns, discussed the design details of the lighting, and ultimately voted to take no action on the application.
