Montana Spatial Data Infrastructure Strategic Plan 2026-2030
This draft MSDI Cadastral Theme Plan, updated in 2026, establishes a comprehensive roadmap for improving data quality and enhancing the practical use of cadastral data over a five-year period. The plan identifies eleven key goals, including developing a prioritization evaluation model, acquiring 25% of the state's township corners, investigating improvements to the Orion Data Service, and publishing parcels semi-monthly. Further objectives encompass completing metadata for all subtheme datasets, incorporating missing GLO surveys into the CadNSDI, identifying and resolving topology errors in public lands data, developing better mechanisms for detecting public land changes, facilitating a seamless parcel data initiative, providing additional resources for SQL database users, and streamlining the entry of new conservation easements. The strategic focus is on enhancing the accuracy, consistency, completeness, and timeliness of the statewide GIS framework for tax parcels and related land-information records.
